Anup Bagchi assumed the position of managing director and chief executive officer of HDFC Bank on October 27, 2026. He succeeded Sashidhar Jagdishan, who vacated the role at the close of business on October 26 after completing his tenure. HDFC Bank confirmed the transition in a regulatory filing submitted on October 27 under the Securities and Exchange Board of India’s listing regulations.

Three-year appointment follows prior disclosure

HDFC Bank announced Bagchi’s appointment on October 1, stating that he would serve for three years from October 27 and join its board as an additional director from October 2, subject to shareholder approval. Context reporting said the Reserve Bank of India had approved the appointment and described Bagchi as the first person from outside the bank to lead it in its more than three-decade history.

Before joining HDFC Bank, Bagchi was managing director and chief executive officer of ICICI Prudential Life Insurance. HDFC Bank said in its earlier announcement that Jagdishan’s leadership had strengthened the bank’s performance, organizational culture and customer-centric approach, while also acknowledging his role in steering the merger with HDFC Ltd. to completion.

Key managerial personnel updated

HDFC Bank named Bagchi, Kaizad Bharucha, V. Srinivasa Rangan, Srinivasan Vaidyanathan and Ajay Agarwal as key managerial personnel authorized to determine the materiality of events and information and make the necessary disclosures to stock exchanges. Their respective listed roles are managing director and CEO, deputy managing director, executive director, chief financial officer and company secretary.

The filing was submitted to BSE and the National Stock Exchange of India. The October 1 intimation had already disclosed details concerning Bagchi’s appointment and Jagdishan’s exit, while the October 27 filing confirmed the effective dates and updated the personnel responsible for regulatory reporting.
