Disney Renews ‘Coven Academy’ for Season 2

Disney extends the series

Disney has renewed its supernatural young-adult series “Coven Academy” for a second season, according to Variety and TVLine. The series was created by Tim Federle and is produced by Federle’s Chorus Boy Productions in association with Disney Kids & Family. The announcement comes after the full first season became available on Disney+ and Hulu, with episodes also airing on Freeform.

Season 1 reached Disney+ and Hulu

Season 1 comprises 21 short “chapters.” Nine premiered on Freeform on October 1, and the remaining episodes became available on Disney+ and Hulu the following day. Freeform continued airing episodes for non-Disney+ subscribers during its “31 Nights of Halloween” programming in October.

Disney reported that the first season generated 20.3 million hours watched globally during its first three weeks on Disney+ and Hulu. Its first chapter also received more than 30 million views on TikTok, Instagram and YouTube, according to Disney.

Nielsen measured the launch audience

Nielsen found that “Coven Academy” was the most-watched streaming series among viewers ages 12 to 17 through its premiere weekend. It ranked among the five most-watched streaming series among all viewers when measured by views rather than hours watched.

The Nielsen data also showed frequent co-viewing: half of viewers ages 12 to 17 and close to two-thirds of viewers ages 6 to 11 watched with an adult.

Planned story directions remain prospective

Federle discussed possible Season 2 developments with TVLine, including Briar potentially confronting Miss Graves about Briar’s birth, Ollie potentially returning to Bristol to reveal that he is a vampire, and Tegan remaining with McKenna. Those directions were described as likely or potential storylines rather than confirmed production or release details.

No release date, episode order or production schedule for Season 2 was disclosed in the reviewed reporting.
