Valve addressed community concerns that Steam Machine reservation holders were being skipped after some users received purchase emails before reservation notifications. The company confirmed the queue itself remains unchanged, attributing the apparent discrepancy to how certain emails were delivered rather than any shift in reservation priority. Going forward, reservation holders will receive confirmation of their reservation before any purchase email is sent. Valve also restated that queues are divided by both region and hardware model, so availability can vary by location and configuration.

Year-end fulfillment target

Valve said it expects to process all Steam Machine reservations by the end of 2026, working through orders daily according to each customer's position in the reservation queue. Those who receive a purchase offer must complete the purchase within 72 hours, after which the next person in the queue moves up. The first devices shipped on June 29, 2026. For some models in certain regions, the reservation queue has already been cleared and users on the waiting list are now receiving purchase offers.

Local network game transfer fix

Valve released a stable Steam client update on July 27, 2026, resolving a bug that caused some game installations to download files from the internet instead of transferring them over a local network. The fix restores a bandwidth-saving feature that lets users copy installed games and updates between gaming laptops, PCs, and Steam Deck devices on the same local network. Transfers only occur if both devices are online, connected to the same LAN, and have local network transfers enabled, and the sending device must be idle. Valve also recommends updating every participating device, as transfers may not work correctly if different Steam Client versions are installed.

FSR 4.1 and platform additions

Steam Machine now supports AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution 4.1 through Proton Experimental, enabling compatible games to use the newer upscaling technology. The feature is particularly relevant to Steam Machine because its graphics chip with 8 GB of GDDR6 memory is oriented toward Full HD and WQHD rather than 4K. Valve also released official CAD files for several Steam Machine accessories, posted to its own GitLab instance, so owners and creators can design custom mounts, stands, and other 3D-printed accessories.

Pricing and supply context

Valve's reservation-based sales approach stems from limited inventory driven by the broader memory crisis, which has made components harder to source. The 512 GB Steam Machine is priced at 1,040 euros, while the 2 TB configuration bundled with a Steam Controller costs up to 1,430 euros. To deter scalpers, Valve tied the waiting lists to Steam accounts, restricting eligibility to users with established accounts that had made purchases on Steam before April 27, 2026.
