Steam Frame reservation system spotted on Steam backend

Valve has built a reservation queue for the Steam Frame into its store backend, the same mechanism the company previously used for the Steam Deck and Steam Machine. The reservation interface is not yet live, but Valve-focused dataminer Brad Lynch identified the back-end code in place on the Steam Frame's product page. Lynch also circulated what appears to be a reservation email template whose placeholder date defaults to the Unix epoch, an artifact reviewers interpret as a sign the messaging system is wired up but inactive. Valve has not commented publicly on the discovery, and the reservation flow has not been opened to customers.

Reported timeline points to late September or early October shipments

Outlets covering the backend change say the reservation announcement is expected later this week or next, followed by reviews and initial unit deliveries toward the end of September or early October. Because the Steam Machine launch ran a one-time lottery to allocate limited inventory and then worked through the queue month by month, KitGuru expects Valve to repeat a similar randomization step for the Steam Frame before opening general orders. Leaker GogoXR told PC Guide that Valve is unlikely to make an announcement this week but that the wait will not be "too long," and that Labor Day had been floated as a possible reveal window that has now passed. Valve has not confirmed pricing, and KitGuru notes that as a self-contained headset with internal compute, the Steam Frame could be exposed to the ongoing RAM and SSD price surge.

Steam Frame packages surface on SteamDB

Separately, PC Guide reports that Valve has uploaded multiple Steam Frame packages to SteamDB in recent days, a pattern consistent with preparing a product page for public release. The Steam Machine, announced alongside the Frame for a summer window, is already available, while the Frame has remained the outstanding item in that paired announcement. Earlier leaks documented user-guide footage covering unboxing, controller strap installation, and initial setup, a detail the same outlet cataloged as evidence that production is in its final stages.

Other developments

A broader XR industry analysis published the same day noted the postponed Pico Space Pro launch and layoffs at Felix & Paul Studios as part of a volatile market backdrop into the autumn hardware window. The same analysis framed the Steam Frame's imminent release as a potential swing factor for the consumer VR segment heading into the final quarter.
