Ella Langley's 'Choosin' Texas' breaks Mariah Carey's Hot 100 weeks-at-No. 1 record

Ella Langley's country ballad "Choosin' Texas" reached 23 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 on Tuesday, breaking the mark previously held by Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas Is You." The Hot 100 combines streaming, radio airplay, sales and additional data tabulated by Luminate. With the milestone, Langley, 27, surpasses Carey's longstanding record of 22 weeks atop the chart.

Langley's response to the milestone

Langley addressed the achievement in an Instagram video posted Tuesday, telling fans she was struggling to put the moment into words. "I'm genuinely trying to find the words to help explain what's going on inside my brain today," she said, with her dog barking in the background. She thanked listeners for supporting the track and said she intended to celebrate that night, adding, "It's changing my life. It's changing the lives of the writers of this song. It's changing the lives of my family."

"Choosin' Texas" was released in October and is co-written by Langley with Luke Dick, Miranda Lambert and Joybeth Taylor. The single had also earned Langley Single of the Year at the 61st Academy of Country Music Awards in Las Vegas on May 17. She enters the record-breaking week as the leading nominee for the 2026 CMA Awards, with nine nominations.
