Sunderland's path to the Adventure Core podium
Sam Sunderland stepped up from the Adventure Lite class, which he won in 2025, to the more demanding Adventure Core category for the 23rd edition of the Red Bull Romaniacs hard enduro rally in Romania. He qualified 13th in the Prologue before winning the opening off-road stage by more than a minute to take the class lead. On Offroad Day Two, damage to the bike's chain and adjuster cost him time and dropped him to second, a position he held through the remaining off-road days with consistent top-five stage finishes to secure the runner-up result.
Walker's Adventure Ultimate result and Cervantes's early exit
Two-time Romaniacs winner and Triumph Factory Racing rider Jonny Walker competed in the premier Adventure Ultimate class on a similar near-stock Tiger 900 Rally Pro. He qualified 15th and finished seventh in the Prologue, then placed fifth and seventh on the first two off-road days before his strongest run, fourth on Offroad Day Three, moved him back up to sixth overall, where a fifth-place final day confirmed his classification. Five-time Enduro World Champion Ivan Cervantes, also campaigning a Triumph in Adventure Core, showed early pace before damage on the second off-road day forced his retirement.
What the result proves about the Tiger 900 Rally Pro
All three Triumph riders used near-showroom Tiger 900 Rally Pro machines with only minor modifications to meet the rally's demands. According to Triumph, the Rally Pro specification includes Shift Assist, six riding modes, heated seats and a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System. The Adventure Core class was won by Rene Columna on a CFMOTO in 11:20:47, with Sunderland 11:32:29 and Chris Power third in 11:42:59, while the Adventure Ultimate class was won by Mario Roman on a CFMOTO in 13:27:30, ahead of Pol Tarres (Yamaha, 13:42:10) and Dieter Rudolf (KTM, 13:43:23); Walker finished sixth in 14:37:31.
Rider perspective on the near-stock effort
Speaking after the rally, Sunderland said the event was "an incredible challenge from start to finish" and that he had gone into the final day hoping to regain the overall lead, briefly retaking it before the service point before a crash in dust snapped his clutch lever. He completed the stage using the clutch cable and said finishing second overall in Adventure Core on a Tiger 900 Rally Pro so close to standard specification was a result he was proud of, calling the bike's capability in that terrain "amazing" and adding, "I could probably write a book with all the stories I've lived this week."
Significance for Triumph's off-road programme
Sunderland's runner-up finish and Walker's sixth place gave Triumph a second consecutive strong showing in Romania on near-production adventure machinery against purpose-built enduro bikes. The result is being framed by Triumph and Visordown as further evidence of the Tiger 900 Rally Pro's off-road credentials in one of the world's toughest hard enduro rallies.
