Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) said on Wednesday it will soon launch a localized mass-market SUV built on a dedicated electric vehicle platform, adding to its current EV lineup of the IONIQ 5 and the CRETA Electric, the company stated. Managing Director and CEO Tarun Garg linked the vehicle to a broader company goal of making "the transition to electric mobility convenient, dependable and rewarding," according to the company's statement carried in PTI-syndicated coverage.
Charging infrastructure tied to the launch
HMIL inaugurated 120 kW DC fast-charging stations in New Delhi on World EV Day 2026, the company said, presenting the higher-capacity direct-current hardware as part of the readiness package for the upcoming SUV. The same announcement framed the charging rollout alongside the new vehicle rather than as a separate network expansion.
EV-ready sales and service footprint
The company set out numerical targets for its EV-ready distribution, saying it plans to reach 820 touchpoints and 650 workshops by the end of FY27. To support that footprint, HMIL stated it will train more than 7,000 additional sales personnel and over 5,000 additional service personnel for electric vehicle sales, maintenance and repair by the end of FY27. The company also said it has already trained over 10,000 sales personnel to date and has more than 2,600 trained dealership service personnel available for EV maintenance across existing touchpoints.
Bounded uncertainty around the new model
HMIL did not disclose a specific on-sale date, name, pricing band or production site for the upcoming mass-market SUV EV, describing it only as "localized" and built on a dedicated EV platform. Coverage from different outlets also diverged on the scale of the training plan: while the Economic Times version and the Hindu BusinessLine PTI wire specified "over 7,000" additional sales personnel and "more than 5,000" additional service personnel, Rediff Moneynews summarized the same figures as "over 12,000 additional sales and service personnel," a gap that reflects rounding or aggregation rather than a substantively different company commitment. Model-level specifications, launch timing and customer-delivery milestones therefore remain to be confirmed in later updates.
