A New Door on Market Street

In June 2019, the Isle of Man welcomed its very first Premier Inn, and it has been part of Douglas's evolving town centre ever since. The hotel brings a familiar budget-chain experience to a small island capital that, until then, had no established large-scale accommodation brand in operation. It is a notable marker in the local tourism story, and it is also a genuinely practical base for travellers exploring the seafront and shops of Douglas Bay.
Where You'll Find It
The address isPremier Inn, Market Street, Douglas, IM1 2PA, right in the heart of the Isle of Man's capital. Market Street runs through the centre of town, so the property sits within easy reach of Douglas's promenade, retail streets and harbour. The hotel's coordinates map it precisely to this Market Street address, anchoring it as a town-centre landmark rather than a roadside stop.
For visitors who like to pair their stay with a gentle wander, the surrounding area offers a walk-friendly Douglas Bay seafront, local high-street shops and green spaces just outside the town. The capital setting also means the hotel functions as a springboard for day trips around the rest of the island, from the old streets of the seafront to the headlands further afield.
A 2019 Milestone for Isle of Man Tourism
The hotel was officially opened on 28 June 2019 by Simon Ewins, the managing director of Premier Inn UK, with a special ceremony that drew attention as the first Premier Inn on the Isle of Man. The launch was framed at the time by the island's enterprise minister, Laurence Skelly MHK, as a potential "renaissance" for the local tourism industry, with hopes that the new property would help boost visitor numbers to Douglas.
Beyond the ribbon-cutting, the opening carried real economic weight for the town: the hotel created 35 jobs for local residents, giving it an immediate footprint in the community as both a place to stay and a place to work.
Building, Bedrooms and On-Site Dining
The complex rises over six storeys and contains 85 bedrooms in total, making it a sizeable presence on Market Street. It was developed as a new-build project by the Isle of Man-based company Dandara, which later handed the finished premises back to Premier Inn's parent company, Whitbread.
The hotel also includes a Thyme restaurant on site, alongside a bar, giving guests an all-in-one base for meals without leaving the building. Advance bookings for the new property opened ahead of the doors first swinging open to customers on 24 June 2019 via the premierinn.com website.
Construction and Sustainability
The new-build design was developed for Whitbread PLC with a strong focus on sustainability, efficiency and long-term operational resilience, which is reflected in how the structure was planned from the ground up rather than retrofitted from an older building.
Practical Considerations
Some on-site details, such as facilities and services, can change over time, so it's always worth confirming the latest information directly with the hotel before relying on a specific feature. The hotel's core identity, however, the Market Street address, the 85-bedroom scale and the 2019 opening as the Isle of Man's first Premier Inn, remains the defining story of this Douglas property.
