NMDC's August iron ore output and sales

State-owned mining company NMDC reported that iron ore production rose 20.77% year-on-year to 4.07 million tonnes in August 2026, compared with 3.37 million tonnes in August 2025. Iron ore sales increased 5.60% year-on-year to 3.58 million tonnes from 3.39 million tonnes a year earlier.

Performance by mining division

The Chhattisgarh division lifted production 19.46% year-on-year to 2.64 million tonnes from 2.21 million tonnes, with sales rising 10.09% year-on-year to 2.51 million tonnes from 2.28 million tonnes. The Karnataka division posted a 23.28% year-on-year production increase to 1.43 million tonnes from 1.16 million tonnes, while sales declined 3.60% year-on-year to 1.07 million tonnes from 1.11 million tonnes.

Market context and broader backdrop

The monthly update follows prior reporting that NMDC's five-month production to August was about 26% higher at 23.23 million tonnes versus 18.45 million tonnes a year earlier, with cumulative sales at 18.72 million tonnes versus 18.37 million tonnes. Separately, in prior-day iron ore market coverage, Vale shares closed up 0.40% at US$15.09 in New York as Dalian iron ore futures held a US$93–US$100 trading range, underscoring ongoing price stability in the broader seaborne market.

Share price reaction

NMDC shares fell 0.82% to Rs 84.86 on the BSE on the session, even as the company posted the double-digit production gain, reflecting that the production beat was not enough to lift the stock on the day.
