Bollywood Release Calendar Reshuffles as Ramayana Trailer and Prahaar Are Both Delayed

Ramayana trailer postponed hours before launch

The trailer for Nitesh Tiwari's mythological epic Ramayana was pulled hours before its scheduled July 24 global release, with producer Namit Malhotra announcing on Instagram that the launch would be pushed to a later date. Malhotra tied the postponement to a newly signed international distribution partnership with Sony Pictures Entertainment, saying the deal fulfilled his dream of taking the film to audiences worldwide on the scale of a major Hollywood release. The trailer had been set to premiere at San Diego Comic-Con 2026 before going online at 8 a.m. IST; Namit Malhotra, director Nitesh Tiwari and lead actors Ranbir Kapoor and Yash still took part in the Comic-Con panel. No revised trailer release date was announced, though India TV News reported speculation that it could be paired with screenings of Sony's Spider-Man: Brand New Day. NDTV and other outlets noted that despite the postponement, portions of the trailer leaked online, drawing criticism from fan communities.

Prahaar pushed from August 7 theatrical date

Producer Dinesh Vijan's Maddock Films postponed Rajkummar Rao's courtroom drama Prahaar from its planned August 7 release, according to reports carried by mid-day and ABP Live on July 24. A source cited by Bollywood Hungama said the decision came after the studio felt the date would place the film between the July 30 release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day and the August 14 releases of Batwara 1947 and Awarapan 2. Prahaar, inspired by the career of veteran public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam, had yet to begin its promotional campaign with two weeks to go before its scheduled arrival, a signal trade observers cited as evidence of the delay. ABP Live noted that Prahaar is the second Maddock Films project to be pushed this month after Eetha. A new release date has not been confirmed.

Jana Nayagan opens in theatres after long certification battle

Vijay's political action drama Jana Nayagan, directed by H Vinoth, opened in Indian cinemas on July 23, with ThePrint reporting sold-out theatres, overnight fan queues, firecracker celebrations and drum-led fan dances outside venues. The release followed a six-month standoff with the Central Board of Film Certification; the film was originally scheduled for January 2026 and was eventually cleared with an A certificate after 12 changes. The ensemble cast includes Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Prakash Raj, Priyamani, Gautham Vasudev Menon and Narain, with music by Anirudh Ravichander. Critical reception was mixed, with viewers praising Vijay's screen presence and his scenes with Baiju while criticising the screenplay, visual effects and Bobby Deol's antagonist track. ThePrint described the film as Vijay's last before he steps away to focus on politics full time.

Crowded release window shapes upcoming calendar

The postponements come against a packed late-July and August theatrical slate. Spider-Man: Brand New Day arrives on July 30, followed by Batwara 1947 and Awarapan 2 on August 14. Further ahead, Ramayana: Part 1 is scheduled for Diwali 2026 and Ramayana: Part 2 for Diwali 2027, according to producer Namit Malhotra and reporting by NDTV, India TV News and Moneycontrol. The makers of Prahaar said they would announce a revised date once a healthier theatrical window is identified.
