CXMT claims first LPDDR6 shipments to a named device

ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT), China's largest DRAM producer, said on August 29, 2026, that it has entered mass production of LPDDR6 memory and identified the Xiaomi 18 Fold as the first smartphone to ship with its LPDDR6 chips. The foldable is scheduled to launch in September 2026, making it the first confirmed commercial product to carry LPDDR6 from any supplier. CXMT's announcement positions it ahead of SK hynix, which completed development validation of a 16-gigabit LPDDR6 part in March and had guided to H2 2026 mass production, and Samsung Electronics, which showed LPDDR6 at CES 2026 but has not disclosed a mass-production timeline.

Specifications and how CXMT compares with rivals

According to CXMT's interim report, its LPDDR6 parts reach peak data rates of 12,800 Mbps and support per-chip capacities of up to 16 GB, targeting mobile devices, servers and smart cars. In the Xiaomi 18 Fold, the memory runs at 10,667 MT/s alongside the Xring O3 system-on-chip, delivering about 113.8 GB/s of memory bandwidth. By contrast, the JEDEC JESD209-6 standard, finalized in July 2025, tops out at 14.4 Gbps and 38.4 GB/s per die. SK hynix's own LPDDR6 effort uses a sixth-generation 1c-class 10-nanometer process, and analysts have flagged that CXMT has not disclosed LPDDR6 yields or production volumes.

Financial backdrop from CXMT's first post-IPO report

The LPDDR6 disclosure accompanied CXMT's first half-year earnings since going public. Revenue reached ¥150.3 billion (about $22.3 billion), up 873.64% year on year, with net earnings of ¥77.6 billion. CXMT's Q2 gross margin hit 87.59%, compared with 84.9% non-GAAP for Micron's fiscal 3Q26 and 83.2% for SK hynix in 2Q26. R&D spending climbed 87.38% year on year to ¥6.859 billion in the first half. CXMT also said the global DRAM market is expected to remain undersupplied in the second half.

Xiaomi's broader September launch lineup

The Xiaomi 18 Fold shares the September 2026 launch window with the Xiaomi 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max, which use Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, and with the Xiaomi Pad 9 Pro Max, which pairs the Xring O3 SoC with CXMT LPDDR6. Reuters reported a Xiaomi 18 Fold shipment target of 200,000 to 300,000 units, framing the device as a limited-production premium foldable rather than a high-volume launch.
