Sony and Marvel's "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" collected $145 million domestically in its second weekend, the third-biggest sophomore weekend in North American box office history. Only "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" ($149 million in 2015) and "Avengers: Endgame" ($147 million in 2019) rank higher, and "Brand New Day" is the eighth film ever to surpass $100 million in its second outing. After a record $355 million domestic opening, the Tom Holland-led sequel has generated $655.1 million in the U.S. and Canada and $1.67 billion worldwide in just ten days of release, putting it on a trajectory toward the all-time top ten globally. The film crossed $1 billion worldwide in six days, the second-fastest after "Endgame," and is the fastest title in history to reach $550 million domestically.

The Odyssey overtakes Nolan's prior benchmarks

Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey" added $31.5 million domestically in its fourth weekend, lifting its global total to $1.1 billion and surpassing "The Dark Knight Rises" ($1.08 billion) and "The Dark Knight" ($1.008 billion) to become the director's highest-grossing film. The film now sits at $461.2 million domestically and is IMAX's highest-grossing domestic release of all time, with $147.3 million on the large-format screens; "The Odyssey" has not yet opened in China, the world's second-largest theatrical market.

Newcomers open soft against dominant holdovers

Three wide releases debuted to modest results against the two blockbusters. Universal's R-rated romantic comedy "One Night Only" opened to $5.7 million from 3,012 theaters, while Searchlight's "Super Troopers 3" launched with $4 million from 2,760 theaters. New entrant "Ice Cream Man" earned $2 million, and the compilation "CatVideoFest 2026" reached $568,414 from 255 theaters, a notable showing for a niche event title.

Top 10 weekend ranking (estimated)

"Spider-Man: Brand New Day" led the chart, followed by "The Odyssey," "One Night Only," "Super Troopers 3," and Disney/Pixar's "Toy Story 5" ($3.9 million, $470.4 million domestic total). Rounding out the top ten were "Minions & Monsters" ($3.5M), "Moana" ($2.8M), "Ice Cream Man" ($2M), "The Invite" ($717,568), and "CatVideoFest 2026" ($568,414). Rentrak reported that 2026 ticket sales are running 18.5% ahead of last year and that summer theatrical revenue is roughly $14.8 million shy of the $4 billion mark, a level last crossed in 2023.

What to watch next

Final domestic figures from the weekend are expected Monday, and "The Odyssey" opens in China on Friday, the last major market it has yet to enter. Five 2026 releases have already crossed $1 billion worldwide, the most in a single year since 2019.
