A record-setting second weekend for Brand New Day

Sony Pictures and Marvel's Spider-Man: Brand New Day added an estimated $381m globally in its second weekend of release, lifting its 12-day worldwide total to $1.67bn. The film fell 59.7% in North America and 48% internationally, with the domestic running total of $655.1m the highest ever recorded after 10 days, surpassing Avengers: Endgame at the same stage. The $1.67bn global tally places Brand New Day 12th on the all-time worldwide chart, just behind Jurassic World and Inside Out 2, and on track to overtake Spider-Man: No Way Home's $1.92bn and become the eighth film ever to cross $2bn.
The Odyssey overtakes Nolan's previous best
Universal's The Odyssey added a confirmed $113.6m worldwide at the weekend, pushing its global cumulative to $1.11bn and surpassing The Dark Knight Rises ($1.09bn) to become the highest-grossing Christopher Nolan film of all time. The film also set a new Imax record with $289.3m — 26% of its worldwide total — the largest ever for any title, and helped Imax post a fourth consecutive $50m-plus weekend. The Odyssey debuted in South Korea with $14.4m, the biggest opening for a Nolan film there, taking 44% of the market against Brand New Day, and is set to open in China on August 14.
